Management of Osun State Polytechnic Iree has refuted a fake information that stated that the Full Time students of the Polytechnic who are currently on break have been directed to resume next week.
The Registrar of the Institution, Barrister Busari Salawu, in a Press Release, stated that the story purportedly written by the NAMACOS Editor was fake, fictitious and an attempt to mislead the students.
The Registrar explained that Management of the Polytechnic is still considering the Report of the Panel of Enquiry set up to investigate the crisis that led to the closure of the Institution over a month ago. Therefore no official of the institution had informed the quack reporter about the students’ resumption and payment of any damages next week .
It would be recalled that the school was closed down by its authorities following a protest on 1st, June 2019 over the death of a student who slumped in the examination hall and died on 30th May, this year. The incident eventually led to looting, vandalisation and arson in the institution’s Health Centre by the students where facilities worth millions of Naira were lost.
The Release signed by Mr. Tope Abiola, Media Relations Officer of the Institution on behalf of the Registrar stressed that the Management has not pronounced any resumption date and the actual amount of money the students would pay as damages for the multi-million naira facilities destroyed and carted away by the irate students.
In a related development, the Acting Rector of the polytechnic, Dr. Olawoye Olaniran has enjoined the students, parents and guardians not to allow fraudsters to dupe them on payment of the damages.
Dr. Olaniran said that all hands are now on deck to ensure that the issue is resolved so that the students could resume very soon.
Dr Olaniran urged them to remain calm and orderly. He added that the date of the resumption would be made public soon.
